Twisted Roots - strange story from Nevada

Recently my friend and I were on a road trip to go from Oregon to southern California, and we both always love driving through the smaller towns or back roads to get places especially because you can always see some kind of strange towns and buildings on the way there and Nevada is a huge state with lots of empty space so I was eager if we would see anything at all

So we were driving down and there really was absolutely nothing but eventually we decided to drive down a road that would eventually have some tourist traps because those are always fun lol but when we were driving up on this pretty high cliff road we could see a small town below but it was abandoned i think? but it didn't even look old it just seemed empty and like no one was living there anymore which i never see with towns that don't look very old... My friend pointed out it also looked like there was a active town not even that far from this one which is SUPER weird because why would there be two towns right next to each other and one is abandoned?

It was pretty creepy to be honest I would love to know if anyone else has seen stuff like this or have theories on why it would be like that?

That is very strange if that is the case! I live in a big city, so big I hardly ever get to go out to try and find strange little towns... And a normally populated town with an abandoned part not far away? That is the kind of strange I would love to explore myself.

I hear about really really old towns sometimes being located in places that end up being dangerous. Especially old mining towns where mining real deep can cause some toxic chemicals to release into the air, or that they got later technology that revealed the place theyre in is dangerous for some other reason. Maybe it all looks relatively normal because they left before it got worse... but it is even more strange if the houses look "new" like you said.

Yes it really did look new I think I would say it really didn't look more than 20 years that it was abandoned maybe even less than that?

Only that old would be very very weird indeed. I guess it would be hard to ask more details since you were on a trip and I assume you can't go back now. Maybe on your way home from your trip you can get a better look? Were there any roads that seemed to go there?

I actually knew someone who lived in a town where that happened! I know they were in the west too so it would be interesting to know where they were. Maybe if they're in Nevada I could ask if they knew any towns like that. It IS weird it would be new and not old though, but There is a local school where I live that didn't know there were toxic chemicals under ground until a few years ago. So its not completely impossible for a place to be so new but entirely abandoned... considering most other places around the school are still active, I guess the city deemed it safe enough... But there is a chance they closed the school only because its the fact kids were getting exposed. Maybe the rest of us don't matter haha.

The remnants of towns left behind are always interesting to analyze. As others already said, it is hard to know exactly what you saw unless we also know where it is. But I have heard of places similar to this. Are you sure it was a town? Or did it look more like a makeshift settlement? Maybe a big campsite? There are many times where a cult, following, or otherwise, create their own settlement. But because they don't often last long, they don't look nearly as advanced as a normal established town.

sorry i took a bit to answer, i got busy. yeah it is hard to say since it has been a while since we actually were there but i dont think it looked like a normal town exactly. maybe not a campsite but it looked kind more like sheds and stuff rather than a lot of houses i think. the roads were all dirt around it too if that might mean anything? maybe it was just a campsite. but it looked more like homes were there

Yeah, that's interesting for sure. I wish we could find out more about what you saw. I know it's likely nothing but... It's hard not to wonder more when we can't actually see it. Hoping someone out there maybe knows what place you're talking about and sees it too.

I only just saw this thread, but I am in Nevada! And maybe not that far from the place you are talking about... I am not sure. At least in the general area. I have passed by some areas with small towns, ones I can't even place the names of because it was so small and out in the middle of nowhere. If you guys are curious enough maybe I could head out at some point and take some pictures? Would that maybe help you remember Freya if I might be close?

oh that would so awesome if you had time to do that! i dont think i can promise i will remember it but if someone went looking it would be super cool to just learn about it and maybe see if it was actually a weird thing or just something normal. it is probably normal but it is fun to think maybe i came across something creepy... It was definitely up north because thats where we were heading home from and we came back from oregon and were heading towards Reno? but it was a lot of hours until we got there so if you live near the top of the state near the border that could be good.

I would absolutely love to see this develop more if someone were to go hunting! Be careful to not... overstep anything, of course. But figuring out where a town is on the map shouldn't be invasive. If we can figure out where it is specifically, it shouldn't be all too hard to start doing some research based on it. Otherwise, right now searching for "nevada cults" or anything else more general doesn't seem to bring up much of anything. It's hard to say its a cult at all, too.

Okay, I live around Washoe area so I cam pretty close to the border. And I am not in a big city either nor am I super close to any big cities. So I asked my relatives what small towns they pass a lot because they also drive over the borders to see our other family. So in the last week I decided to go and drive around with my buddy, which was fun to do anyways because it really made us realize... there are a lot of nobody towns out there. Which does make this a bit hard to pin down.

But I did not come out with nothing! I thought I may as well take some pictures... I got a new phone recently so they're pretty high quality! But as you can see, there is not a lot out here. So I don't know how useful these will be, lol. I won't say I will give up though. I think it will still be worth driving around, and maybe asking some more locals about nearby by stuff too.

It's cool seeing someone looking into these kinds of things! I don't see a lot of "new" discoveries so... It would be awesome if someone on the forum found some new real mystery. Please keep us updated!

omg that is so awesome you went and got pictures! Well it definitely looks like nevada i guess and not very specific lol so it is hard to say... but i talked to my friend i was with to ask if she remembered better than me where it was and i sent you an email with the email on your profile to ask you because i didn't want to say where you live by accident. if you got it let me know because my friend has way better memory than me also because she was the one driving us home so she also knew the route we were on lol.

I did see your email and just responded, but I will say it for the thread too. I am basically right around that area you guys seemed to be at, which is an awesome coicidence that i was not far off. Very exciting to me! I know its likely this isn't anything but I would at least want to try and see what you saw.

It is really cool you guys seem to have connected a location of some kind... But I would like that we don't bring up any specific names until we know more, and if this place is actually abandoned. If it is an abandoned place, then post without any worries.

Wow I missed some stuff in this thread...! So what are we thinking based off what you've seen? Freya said it looked like some kind of abandoned town, but there was also a town nearby, right? I think the boring result would be that its just... I don't know... an abandoned campsite?

Well its definitely possible to just be that, it is very out of the way and in the middle of nowhere. People hike in the wilderness but it is a bit too out of the way for me to imagine anyone camping here, especially because there isn't anything... noteworthy? I won't hope for anything crazy, though.

I think I know the area you're talking about and I am pretty sure its just a campsite. My parent's and I went there I think because we don't live far. I don't know if it's really worth bothering.
